Alternative game dynamics 2: “Timeline” mode

Objective: The goal is to build a timeline or sorted sequence of Species cards based on a chosen item within the sequencing information section of the Species cards: first publication date, genome size, number of coding genes, or number of unique chromosomes.

Setup:

  1. Chose an item within the sequencing information section to sort the Species cards: first publication date, genome size, number of coding genes, or number of unique chromosomes.
  2. Shuffle the Species cards and deal them evenly between the players. Discard other card types.
  3. Each player places their deck of cards in front of them, facing up, while covering the sequencing information section.

Game Dynamics:

On their turn, players draw a card from their deck and places it in the timeline, facing them, according to the chosen sorting item. The card must be correctly positioned relative to existing cards on the table. If a player successfully places a card, the card stays in the table in its correct position and the player draws a new card from their deck. If unsuccessful, the card is moved to the bottom of its deck and the turn passes to the next player. Players take turns, continually building a timeline or sorted sequence of Species cards based on the chosen characteristic.

End of the game: The first player to successfully play all their Species cards in the correct order, adhering to the chosen characteristic, wins.
