Event cards explanations

Cyberattack [1 card]: Play Cyberattack on top of a Species card and discard that card. Then move Cyberattack to an adjacent Species card. At the beginning of every turn, discard the Species card beneath Cyberattack and move it to an adjacent position. Every player must move Cyberattack at the beginning of their turn. Only one Cyberattack card may be played per game; if a player has played Cyberattack, the other player cannot play it.

Discontinued technology [1 card]: Place Discontinued technologyon the table. The player who played it chooses a sequencing generation from 1 to 3. Players cannot play Species cards from the chosen generation, but existing Species cards of that generation ingame are not discarded. When Discontinued technology is discarded by any effect, Species cards from that generation can be played again.

Extinction [1 card]: Choose a Species card in game with the genomic interest area Extinction risk and discard it along with Extinction.

Financial cut [2 cards]: Play Financial cut beneath a Species card until it is discarded. If the Species card is moved, Financial cut moves with it. New Species cards cannot be played adjacent to the Species card on top of Financial cut until Financial cut is removed from the game, either by discarding the Species card on top or by directly discarding Financial cut. Cards adjacent to the Species card that were previously in game aren’t discarded.

Fundings [4 cards]: Only play Funding if there are at least 5 Species cards in game facing you. Choose an Event card in game and discard it along with Fundings.

International conference [2 cards]: Play International conference on top of a Species card to move it from one position to any other compatible spot on the table. Then discard International conference.

Mutation [1 card]: Choose a Species card in game with the genomic interest area Evolutionary interest and discard it along with Mutation.

Nobel prize [2 cards]: After someone has played an Event card, you may play Nobel prize to cancel its effect. Both cards will be discarded. You may negate the effect of a Nobel prize with another Nobel prize. Playing Nobel prize doesn’t count as an action in a turn, but playing the Event card that has been negated does.

Out of order [1 card]: Place Out of order in front of a player until it is discarded. That player cannot play Species cards while Out of order is in game. At the beginning of the next step of the player that played Out of order, discard Out of order.

Pharmaceutical industry [1 card]: Choose a Species card in game with the area Drug production and discard it along with Pharmaceutical industry.

Plague [1 card]: Choose a Species card in game with the genomic interest area Crops and discard it along with Plague.

Power outage [1 card]: Choose a Species card in game with the genomic interest area Food production and discard it along with Power outage.

Publication [2 cards]: Place Publication beneath a Species card until it is discarded. If the Species card is moved, Publication moves with it. At the end of the game, double the points indicated in the Species card on top. However, points gained from this card in any other way are not doubled. If two Publication cards are played beneath the same Species card, each one sums the points indicated in the card to the total score, i.e., the points are tripled, not quadrupled.

Rejected manuscript [2 cards]: Place Rejected manuscript beneath a Species card until it is discarded. If the Species card is moved, Rejected manuscript moves with it. At the end of the game, the points indicated in the Species card on top are not considered as Species card points. However, they do count as Sequencing technology points and Special points.

Research [2 cards]: Place Research beneath a Species card until it is discarded. If the Species card is moved, Research moves with it. The Species card on top of Research gains the ability to jump. If the Species card could already jump, Research has no effect.

Re-sequencing [2 cards]: Choose a Species card from the discard pile of any player and place that card facing you in a compatible spot. If there are no compatible spots, both the Species card and Re-sequencing are discarded. Place Re-sequencing beneath the chosen Species card until it is discarded. If the Species card is moved, Re-sequencing moves with it. The sequencing generation of the Species card on top of Re-sequencing is increased by one; e.g., if it used first-generation technologies, it now uses second-generation. If the card used third-generation technologies, it is kept the same, but you can still choose a card from a discard pile.

rm –f -r [2 cards]: You must discard a card from your hand to play rm -f -r. Choose a Species card in game and discard it along with rm -f -r.

Sample contamination [1 card]: Place Sample contamination on top of a Species card and discard both cards. The owner of the Species card draws cards from their deck until they reveal a Species card. That player puts the drawn Species card in the position the previously discarded Species card was and discards any other drawn cards.

Scientific collaboration:[1 card] Choose a Species card from your hand. Your opponent shuffles all the Species cards in their hand without revealing them. Then, you choose a card from them at random. Put that card into your hand and give the one that you selected from your hand at the beginning to your opponent.

Servers down [1 card]: Place Servers down beneath a Species card until it is discarded. The Species card on top of Servers down cannot move regardless of its move ability. Playing Research beneath the Species card will not give it the ability to jump until Servers down is discarded.

Technological advancement [2 cards]: Play Technological advancement on the table facing you until it is discarded. Progress to the next sequencing technology regardless of the number of Species cards of the current sequencing generation in game facing you. For example, if you have 2 first-generation Species cards and you play Technological advancement, you may play second-generation Species cards. If you have 4 first-generation Species cards, you would be at second-generation technology. If you play Technological advancement, you may play third-generation Species cards, but if you lose one first-generation Species card you may only play second-generation Species cards.

Vaccine [1 card]: Choose a Species card in game with the genomic interest area Pathogen and discard it along with Vaccine.

Veganism [1 card]: Choose a Species card in game with the genomic interest area Livestock and discard it along with Veganism.
